Strengthening Disaster Resilience: Comprehensive Training on Lobbying and Advocacy Across Somaliland for Borama District

Borama, Somaliland-June 8,2024

ALGASL, in collaboration with VNG and under the Danwadaag project, organised a two-day disaster management and advocacy training session. This event was aimed at enhancing the disaster risk management skills of the Borama Local Government, Borama District Committees, and Awdal Region coordinators.

The training brought together a diverse group of participants, including staff from the Borama Local Government, members of various district committees, and regional coordinators. This collaborative approach ensured that a wide range of perspectives and experiences were considered, enriching the learning experience for all attendees.

Throughout the training, participants were engaged in comprehensive sessions that covered the essentials of disaster risk management. The focus was on equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage and mitigate disaster risks. Key topics included the principles of disaster risk reduction, the role of effective communication in advocacy, and strategies for lobbying for better disaster management policies.

By the end of the two-day event, participants reported a significant increase in their understanding of disaster risk management and advocacy. The training not only enhanced their theoretical knowledge but also provided practical tools and techniques that they could apply in their respective roles. This improvement in capacity is expected to have a positive impact on disaster preparedness and response efforts within the Borama district and the broader Awdal region.

The Danwadaag project continues to support initiatives that build resilience and enhance disaster preparedness at the local level. The successful completion of this training session underscores the commitment of ALGASL, VNG, and their partners to fostering sustainable and resilient communities capable of effectively managing future disaster risks.

Our efforts today will shape the safety and resilience of future generations.
