Strengthening Disaster Resilience: Comprehensive Training on Lobbying and Advocacy Across Somaliland for Gabiley District

ALGASL, in collaboration with VNG and under the Danwadaag project, organized a comprehensive two-day training session focused on disaster management and advocacy. The two-day event was designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of Gabiley Local Government employees, regional coordinators, and community members in effectively managing disaster risks.
The training session was attended by a diverse group of participants, including staff from the Gabiley Local Government, community representatives, and regional officials from key organizations such as NADFOR (National Disaster Preparedness and Food Reserve Authority), MOECC (Ministry of Environment and Climate Change), and MOH (Ministry of Health).
Throughout the training, participants were provided with in-depth knowledge on the mechanisms of lobbying and advocacy specifically tailored for disaster risk management. The sessions covered a range of topics, from understanding the intricacies of disaster risk reduction strategies to effective communication and advocacy techniques.
The primary goal of the training was to build the capacity of local government employees and community members, empowering them to address and manage disaster risks more effectively at the district level. By the end of the training, participants reported a significant increase in their understanding and ability to implement disaster risk management strategies, which is expected to contribute to more resilient and prepared communities.
The Danwadaag project continues to support initiatives that strengthen disaster preparedness and response capabilities, ensuring that local governments and communities are better equipped to handle future challenges. This training session is a testament to the ongoing commitment of ALGASL, VNG, and their partners in building sustainable and resilient communities.
