Africa Urban Forum Conference in Addis Ababa

Hargeisa, Soamliland

In a significant step towards addressing the urbanization challenges faced across the African continent, the Association of Local Government Authorities of Somaliland (ALGASL) participated in the Africa Urban Forum Conference held in Addis Ababa. The conference brought together local government officials, urban planners, and stakeholders from various sectors to engage in critical discussions centered on sustainable development and urban governance.

The ALGASL delegation, led by the Capital City of Somaliland's Mayor, Abdikarim Moge, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to foster sustainable urban environments. The forum served as an ideal platform for sharing insights, best practices, and innovative solutions to the pressing issues of urbanization affecting African cities.

In addition to attending the conference, ALGASL Executive Director Mr. Khalid Hersi held a productive meeting with Mr. Andualem Tenaw Habtie, Director General of the Ethiopian Cities Association (ECA). This bilateral meeting was instrumental in exploring numerous opportunities to build and strengthen strategic partnerships between ALGASL and ECA.

During their discussions, both leaders identified key areas of collaboration that could enhance urban governance and service delivery in their respective regions. The dialogue highlighted the significance of knowledge exchange and the potential for joint initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in urban areas.

The Africa Urban Forum Conference not only provided ALGASL with an opportunity to showcase its commitment to sustainable urban development but also facilitated valuable networking opportunities with other key players in the urban governance space. The insights gained from this conference will undoubtedly inform ALGASL's ongoing efforts to improve urban management and planning in Somaliland.

As urbanization continues to pose significant challenges across the continent, the participation of ALGASL in such conferences underscores its dedication to fostering partnerships and sharing knowledge that can drive sustainable solutions for the communities it serves. The momentum generated from this conference, combined with the strategic discussions held with ECA, sets a positive precedent for future collaboration and progress in addressing urban challenges in Somaliland and beyond.
