Welcome to Berbera, a key city in the Sahil region of Somaliland and the primary seaport of the nation. Historically significant, Berbera was once the capital of the British Somaliland protectorate before transitioning to Hargeisa. Situated along the coastline, the city endures a hot arid climate with temperatures regularly exceeding 40°C (104°F) during its prolonged, scorching summers and brief, warm winters, receiving minimal rainfall.
At the heart of regional administration, Berbera is governed by a mayor and a council of local representatives, elected every five years. The Berbera Local Municipality is pivotal in providing essential services and facilities efficiently within its jurisdiction.

The municipality offers a variety of services, including solid waste management, urban planning, sewerage, public safety, beautification projects, and administrative services such as issuing IDs, marriage, and birth/death certificates. Taxation and other civic responsibilities are also managed here.
