Townhall meeting raising community awareness on the role of media in disaster risk management

In July 2022, the DANWADAAG program implemented a townhall session in Somaliland. 25 participants attended the discussions with the aim to raise awareness on the role of media in sensitizing DRM stakeholders to effectively mobilize their respective stakeholders to take their roles. Participants came from the National Disaster Preparedness and Food Security Authority, art sector, media actors, academics, journalists and representatives from the Ministry of Environment.

During the session, the participants discussed 1) how to engage journalists and media houses in the promotion of Disaster Risk Management, 2) how to disseminate information in the Somali language about the natural calamities, environmental, and social advantages of sharing information with the public, 3) how to build awareness among the target groups about the importance of building enabling resilience mechanisms and finally, 4) how to effectively mobilize key stakeholders to engage in extensive awareness-raising campaigns on the field.
